The Inspiration Behind Lime and Matcha

The idea for Lime and Matcha was born out of a desire to create a fragrance that balances energy and tranquility—qualities that are essential for a harmonious home. We wanted to craft a scent that not only refreshes your space but also soothes the senses, making it perfect for any time of day.

Ryan McSorley, neat.’s co-founder shared the inspiration behind this dynamic blend. "We looked to trends in fine fragrance, food and lifestyle products to inspire our latest concept. Our goal was to create a new icon for dish and surface care. One which feels appropriate for the products and their functions but elevates the experience beyond the cliché citrusy fragrances found in many products. We were looking for a combination that could bring both vibrancy and calm to a room. Lime, with its zesty, energizing profile, felt like the perfect starting point to infuse a lively atmosphere. Matcha, known for its grounding and calming properties, provided the perfect counterbalance. But we didn’t stop there. We wanted to create a scent that was layered and long-lasting, so we introduced creamy musk and warm sandalwood to give it depth and staying power."

The resulting fragrance is a complex, multi-dimensional experience. Lime and Matcha begins with bright, citrusy top notes that invigorate and awaken the senses. "Our products are vegan, cruelty-free, plant based and made from biodegradable ingredients. Lime, lemon, and orange provided the vibrant citrus top notes, while green tea added a subtle, refreshing edge. For the heart notes, we chose mint, lavender, and rosemary to introduce a herbal freshness that’s both calming and invigorating. Finally, we anchored the fragrance with base notes of musk, cedarwood, and sandalwood to create a warm, long-lasting finish.,” explained Ryan.

The process wasn’t without its challenges. Balancing the bold, citrusy top notes with the subtle, earthy qualities of matcha and the warm depth of musk and sandalwood required careful calibration. "It took several iterations to get the blend just right," Ryan shared. "Lime’s sharpness had to be tempered to allow the other notes to shine through. The addition of creamy musk and sandalwood helped to soften the citrus, creating a harmonious and balanced fragrance."
